Fox Chapel Area School Board will meet Wednesday for a special session, in large part to approve payroll continuation during the state-mandated shutdown.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held remotely.
Residents can livestream the session on YouTube at www.youtube.com/user/FCASDweb.
Public schools will be closed for two more weeks, the Pennsylvania Department of Education announced Monday.
The district is expected to resume classes on April 13. Leaders have provided online tools for distance learning, including access to Google Classroom and Clever, during the closure.
It is unclear how the extension will affect the 180-day requirement for instruction.
Sharpsburg-based Volunteers of America is working to ensure district children are fed during the closure. The group invites students to its grab-and-go distributions on Mondays and Thursdays at their offices at 1650 Main Street.
Tarcia Rebeiz, Volunteers of America’s western regional director of programs, said food will be available for 80 children each day. Bags will include cereal bars, ready-to-eat meals and canned veggies, enough to last three days, Rebeiz said.
It is first-come, first-served, but her group will work to provide extras if needed.
Distributions are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Bonnie Berzonski, district coordinator of communications, said school board members plan to use Wednesday’s meeting to revise the district’s meeting policy and ratify the instructional plan for the emergency shutdown.
