Fox Chapel Area School Board on Oct. 3 appointed Adam Goode as its newest member.

Goode represents Region 3 and will fill the unexpired term of Robert Mauro, who resigned in September.

Goode was chosen from among three other candidates for the office.

He told the board he considered someday running for the position, but “seeing this opportunity come up, felt compelled to apply.”

Goode works as an engineer at Google. He told the board he brings experience working in a professional environment with large-budget systems involving many stakeholders.

“I like to see well-functioning systems and I want to offer my services to keep that going,” Goode said.

He believes the school district is one of the most valuable assets in the Lower Valley and believes his day job at Google prepares him to maneuver through difficult debates, encourage teamwork and formulate policy. Goode said that applies to budget season, daily communications within the district and seeking to appoint a new superintendent in 2020.

He called the role of school board member “important but not exciting” procedural work.

“The board sets high-level policies and makes sure people are meeting them,” he said. “It takes patience to do that properly.”

Goode earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master’s degree in human-computer interaction from Carnegie Mellon University.

He has lived in the district for eight years and has two children in elementary school.
