Lauri Ann West Community Center has instituted a new no-show policy to help keep up with demand for group fitness classes.

The three-strike system will help combat frequent no-shows that frustrate instructors and keep wishful participants on a waiting list.

“We appreciate our members and we are always striving to better meet their needs,” Sam McClelland, fitness coordinator, said. “As our membership has grown, we have seen an increasing demand for group fitness. We have several classes that run with a waitlist of members for the class.”

A survey of members showed they want a stricter policy.

Effective now, the first time someone misses class without notification they will receive a phone call; after the second time, they won’t be able to access group classes for a week.

The ban increases to two weeks after the third no-show, which McClelland said is constituted by someone not showing up for class and not notifying staff or canceling through the app, or, someone canceling within one hour of the class start time.

The more stringent policy will help the center better meet demand, McClelland said.

“We believe these changes will meet the needs of our members and keep our Group Ex offerings a valuable part of the member experience,” she said.

The center is at 1220 Powers Run Road, O’Hara.
